Olivia Nuzzi’s ex slams her as a ‘liar’ after she withdraws protective order

Ryan Lizza dragged his star political journo ex Olivia Nuzzi as a shameless “liar” after she withdrew a no-contact order she filed against him following her tawdry tryst with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The 31-year-old ex-New York magazine writer filed a motion to dismiss a protective order against her former beau on Friday — more than a month after she accused the Politico writer of harassing and blackmailing her over her year-long texting affair with the Kennedy scion, Nuzzi’s attorney confirmed.

“Olivia shamelessly used litigation with false and defamatory allegations as a public relations strategy. When required to do so, she refused to defend her claims in court last month,” Lizza said in a statement to The Post.

Lizza blasted his ex for “publicly seeking to seal the proceedings that she” started, adding that Nuzzi took the “only course available to her” to withdraw her “fabricated claims” on the eve of a hearing “at which she knew her lies would be exposed.”

“Olivia lied to me for almost a year. She lied to her editors. She lied to her readers. She lied to her colleagues. She lied to reporters. And she lied to the judge in the case. I said I would defend myself against her lies vigorously and successfully and I am fully prepared to do so. But for now, I’m pleased this matter is closed,” Lizza said.

Ari Wilkenfeld, Nuzzi’s lawyer, argued the 31-year-old withdrew the no-contact order over growing fears for her physical safety and well-being amid the couple’s legal strife, adding that his client will benefit from “disengaging from this process,” according to the document filed in Washington, DC’s Superior Court on Friday, the Washington Post reported.

In the filing, Nuzzi accused her former lover of scheming to publicly slander and destroy her name and reputation.

“Ms. Nuzzi has no interest in fighting a public relations battle,” Wilkenfeld said in a statement to The Post.

Nuzzi was granted a no-contact order against Lizza on Oct. 1, claiming he had hacked her devices and was blackmailing her over her affair with the nearly-40-year-her senior RFK Jr.

In subsequent court filings, Lizza, 50, painted Nuzzi as a lost and heartbroken lover who desperately tried to save their engagement after he dumped her, according to the documents filed in Washington, DC’s Superior Court.

He said he confronted Nuzzi and broke off their engagement on Aug. 17 after learning that she had been carrying on with the former presidential candidate for almost a year, according to the filing.

Nuzzi told him that RFK Jr. wanted to “possess,” “control,” and “impregnate” her, according to the filing.

Lizza claimed that everything he learned of the affair with Kennedy — who is married to actress Cheryl Hines — came from Nuzzi’s own tearful admissions as she tried to win him back, the filing said.

Lizza — Politico’s chief Washington correspondent, who is currently on leave from the publication’s popular and influential Playbook — denied that he leaked details of the relationship to her editor or to the press, and refuted her allegations of hacking.

“Olivia shamelessly used litigation with false and defamatory allegations as a public relations strategy. When required to do so, she refused to defend her claims in court last month,” Lizza said in a statement to The Post.

“She then sought to hide my response to her claims from the public by seeking to seal the proceedings that she began. Now, on the eve of a hearing at which she knew her lies would be exposed, she has taken the only course available to her and withdrawn her fabricated claims.”

Nuzzi’s career was derailed in September when she was placed on leave by New York magazine when she admitted to having a personal relationship with RFK Jr. after profiling his independent presidential campaign last November.

She was then ousted from the outlet last month following a crescendo of salacious stories regarding the affair and her legal battle with Lizza.

New York said that an outside investigation found no evidence of bias in any of Nuzzi’s reporting during the 2024 campaign.

“Nevertheless, the magazine and Nuzzi agreed that the best course forward is to part ways,” a New York statement reads, before going on to call her “a uniquely talented writer.”

The two even had “incredible” sex over FaceTime, a source exclusively told Page Six — with Nuzzi relaying that Kennedy’s sexual stamina was impressive.

“Olivia told multiple people that they told each other they loved each other [over the phone] every time they talked,” a source also revealed.

Kennedy has said he and Nuzzi met only once – and sources around him have alleged she was the pursuer, despite other reports claiming the fling started after he grabbed her hand while hiking for the profile piece.

Reps for Nuzzi did not immediately return requests for comment.
