A Tennessee state senator has been arrested on a DUI charge after he was filmed allegedly failing a sobriety test following a drunken hit-and-run crash in Georgia.
Rep. Ken Yager, 77, was caught on camera stumbling around as troopers tried to make him walk in a straight line on Jekyll Island at about 5 p.m. Tuesday, footage obtained by WTVF shows.
The Republican lawmaker was nabbed after authorities spotted his Ford Edge with Tennessee-issued Senate tag license plates in a supermarket parking lot following reports the vehicle had been involved in an earlier hit-and-run crash, the Georgia Department of Public Safety said.
Yager — who is the GOP’s Senate Caucus Chair — allegedly smelled of alcohol and admitted to being involved in the earlier wreck, according to authorities.
He then allegedly agreed to perform the sobriety test.
The footage showed the casually dressed senator struggling to maintain his balance as he tried to put one foot in front of the other. He appeared to have peed his pants, according to the video.
After taking a breathalyzer test, Yager was arrested for driving under the influence and booked at the Glynn County Jail.
It wasn’t immediately clear what his alcohol blood reading was.
“An unfortunate incident happened last night,” Yager said in a statement obtained by the local outlet.
“On the advice of my attorney, I cannot discuss the particulars at this time. I am and will continue to cooperate fully with authorities to bring this incident to an appropriate conclusion.”
The Post reached out to Yager’s office but didn’t hear back immediately.
The probe into the hit-and-run is ongoing, authorities said.
